Get your AI reading companion in a few simple steps.
Version 0.5.7 • Chrome browser required
Click the download button above, then unzip the file to a folder you'll keep (like Documents/Avruta).
Go to chrome://extensions in your browser, or click Menu → Extensions → Manage Extensions.
Toggle "Developer mode" in the top-right corner of the extensions page.
Click "Load unpacked" and select the folder where you unzipped Avruta.
Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Avruta for easy access.
Three ways to open Avruta on any page:
Avruta uses AI to help you understand articles. You'll need an API key from one of these providers:
Your API key is encrypted locally and never leaves your browser except to make direct API calls.
Make sure you selected the unzipped folder, not the .zip file itself. The folder should contain a manifest.json file.
Try refreshing the extensions page. If there's an error, it will show in red text under the extension.
This is a known Chrome bug with sideloaded extensions. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts, click the pencil icon next to "Open Avruta", and manually set it to Alt+Shift+A (even if it already shows that). Extensions from the Chrome Web Store don't have this issue.
